Luxury Condominium Conversion Project, St. Catharines, ON

Canvas Engineering was retained by Ulrich Capital to provide structural engineering design services for a proposed residential condominium conversion project located in downtown St Catharines, ON. This six-storey building located in the heart of St. Catharines, has sat vacant for decades since the original tenants, Consumers' Gas Co. (now Enbridge Gas Inc.). The building was originally constructed in the 1960s to serve as Consumers' Gas Co. local offices. As part of the structural modifications and renovations, the six-story steel framed structure is undergoing a complete seismic retrofit in order to meet the latest Ontario Building Code requirements for residential condominiums. New balconies, localized structural reinforcing, and minor structural maintenance round out the scope of structural services. The newly planned conversion will see 35 new luxury residential condos constructed in the upper floors complete with new large exterior balconies. The main floor will be reserved for commercial space.
